I’m all about healthy eating, but I’m also in love with splurging every once and while. I’ve been craving a sausage dog for a while, I knew the only place to get one would be Top Dogs in Lexington. As a frequent customer, their wild game specialty dogs have become one of my favorites.
If you love specialty hot dogs, Top Dog is the place to go! We love supporting local businesses. Top Dog has been my family’s go-to eat-and-run place since they opened in 2015.
The variety of hot dogs, brats, and specials meats are part of what drew me to Top Dogs initially. With the inclusion of wild game meats, having a healthy option available while out on the run is always a plus!
Wild game meats have health benefits when compared to meats from domesticated or farm-raised animals. Examples of wild game include venison, bison, rabbit, and elk. The fact that wild game animals eat their natural diet and are very active in the wild contributes to the lower fat content of the meat. (Livingstrong)
Benefits of eating Wild Game
Growing up in the south, I’ve had my fill of deer and elk to last a lifetime. Deer contain a great balance of unsaturated fats that help reduce bad cholesterol levels in your blood. This can help lower the risk of stroke and heart disease.
The wild game selection at Top Dog is no exception, with two choices daily you can stop in anytime and try something new.
Wild game is also leaner and healthier than other meats and is packed with greater concentrations of omega-3 fatty acids which is healthier for humans. Wild game also W contains a healthy balance of omega-6 and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids.

I enjoyed the wild game dog. Today’s choices were Buffalo or Boar. In the past I’ve had bison and it was delicious!
We spoke with the owner and she informed us she would be starting her soups this week! We can’t wait!!
Sarah enjoyed her time there as well!
