African American Heritage Trail Boston

While in Boston, the kids and I walked the African American Heritage Trail. The Black Heritage Trail is a path in Boston, Massachusetts, winding through the Beacon Hill neighborhood and sites important in American black history.

The Black Heritage Trail is a path in Boston, Massachusetts, winding through the Beacon Hill neighborhood and sites important in American black history. The Black Heritage Trail links more than 15 pre-Civil War structures and historic sites, including the 1806 African Meeting House, the oldest surviving black church in the United States.

In 1783, Massachusetts became the first U.S. state to declare slavery illegal — mostly out of gratitude for black participation in the American Revolutionary War. Subsequently, a sizable community of free blacks and escaped slaves developed in Boston, settling on the north face of Beacon Hill, and in the North End. With a strong abolitionist community, Boston was long considered a desirable destination for southern black slaves escaping slavery via the Underground Railroad.

A Day in D.C.

A while back I had to make a quick trip to D.C. for work. I took the oldest with me for a short overnight trip. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon; most of the stores were closing by the time we arrived, with us leaving early the next day we didn’t have any opportunities to check out landmarks, but we did walk around Georgetown.

The drive up was pretty hectic, traffic, traffic and more traffic. But we eventually made it and even stopped along the way for a few pictures.

Trip to the SC State Fair

One of the main reasons I love October (besides our birthdays) is because of the State Fair. I’ve loved going since I was a kid, and I always love taking my children whenever I get the chance. I’m not going to lie, it’s gotten crazy expensive over the years; so I don’t go nearly as much as I like, but when we do we always try to make sure we have as much fun as possible.

Our Day at the Carolina Panthers Training Camp

The Fit Fotographer Carolina Panthers Training Camp

To close out our summer we visited the Carolina Panthers training camp. Last year while living in Boston, we visited the New England Patriots training camp, wearing our Carolina Panthers shirts of course!

The kids love going, they get to see their favorite football players and participate in awesome activities. It’s the perfect way to spend a summer day with the kids. We usually go during the week to avoid the crowds and find better parking. If you have time this summer, check out your local team’s training camp.

These events are free and open to the public on certain days. It’s best to arrive early to ensure parking and a great seat. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to get autographs from players as they go to the field.

A Day Trip to Mitchelville Beach Park

The Fit Fotographer Mitchelleville Park

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina is one of South Carolina’s greatest coastal treasures. It’s also one of our favorite(and in my opinion) the best travel destination for families. We have been coming to Hilton Head for years. We have celebrated weddings, reunions, nearly everything under the sun, on this beautiful little island.

The Fit Fotographer Mitcheleville Beach Park

On the island, you won’t find the typical go-carts, amusement rides or surf shops that you may find on Myrtle Beach or Folly Beach. However, what you will find is a top-notch family dining, mini golf and of course the beach. What I love the most is that a majority of the island is pet-friendly!

Mitchelville Beach Park aka Freedom Park is located in Beaufort County on Hilton Head Island. This beautiful beach is definitely off the beaten path, with its undisturbed beach charm and nature trails, this is one place your family needs to visit Read more
