Fall is almost here and so are all the delicious treats that we all enjoy eating. It has been well known for many years that people will gain 10 pounds over the holidays just because there is so much temptation around at all times of the day. With so many temptations around us, it can really become stressful to stay away from all the homemade cookies and expensive wines. The holidays are the perfect time of year to indulge with the people we love but we also want to make sure we take…I don’t know about you, but Fall is my favorite time of year. Here in South Carolina and Georgia, we have our State Fair which always falls on my birthday (also in October). To top it off, both of my children’s birthdays are in the month of October as well, so needless to say we spend a lot of time eating sweet treats during this month.

Maintaining my routine is always toughest during the last quarter of the year, but over time I’ve learned not to stress myself out over perfection. If you have trouble keeping fit during the fall and winter then here are five simple tips to help get you started.

5 Tips to Help Keep Your Summer Body During Fall and Winter

1 Cheat Meals are Okay–Don’t Binge, Don’t Go Overboard.

If you’re like me, you love food. Fall is also a great time for a lot of unique festivals in my area. This upcoming weekend we are having both a Scottish and Greek festival. The only thing I can think of is Gyros, Gyros, Gyros.

2. Drink More Water

Tis the season for lots and lots of drinking. We know how it goes, from here through New Years, most everyone will be taking a drink or two with friends and family. Remember, moderation is key, you should also consume water as well. Water satiates the appetite and keeps you hydrated!

3. Prioritize Your Workouts

Set realistic goals. If you know you’re going to be too busy to for your regular schedule, make adjustments where necessary but don’t beat yourself up if you can’t get it done. BE ACTIVE!! As long as you are up and moving that’s all that matters. Cardio never killed anyone, mall walkers exist for a reason.

4. Choose exercises that move the entire body.

If you are short on time for your normal schedule, choose workouts that impact your entire body, not just certain parts.

The most important things. If you have an active social life, kids in numerous activities and tons of work you often forget just how important a normal sleep schedule can be. Make sure you are getting 7-8 hours of sleep a night. Not enough sleep is proven to increase stress and cause weight gain.

Format: do 3 rounds; do each move for 0:45, taking minimal rest as needed

1- Skaters

2-Bicep Curls

3- Jump Squat Quarter Turn

4- 3-Way Push Ups

5- Jab, Cross, Jab, Crescent Kick

6- Sumo Squat to Side Crunch

Plank Knee Tucks

Seated Leg Pull In

Equipment for an in-home gym

While at the gym I became a huge fan of squats and the ab machine, but working out at home I don’t have access to those machines. These exercises and tips to stay fit during the fall season will come in handy when you don’t have immediate equipment around.

Since I lack the equipment necessary to do the heavy lifting, I’ve found the items listed below to be very handy when it comes to in-home ab and core workouts. Finding items that can train all of my muscles and be compact is hard–living in a small space I have to be careful with what I buy. But these items from Prosource are wonderful and can store easily.

I’ve also included bonus no equipment workouts for you to try today!
